Fly Away

I'm currently considering playing handball at Uni games next month. Haven't played in years but it would be great fun. And a trip to the Gold Coast sounds nice. But it costs money of course, so I'm not sure what to do... Watched Knocked Up this week, not as good as I had hoped it would be but it was worth watching.

The Modern Dance

Hi all,

Back in Sydney after two months of holiday. Already started uni and will start work next week. At the moment I am trying to find a place to live somewhere not too far from uni. I'll be enjoying this semester doing Contemporary Cinema, Documentary Study and Writing for Television.

Watched the last Harry Potter movie last night. Uhm...it was ok. I guess I was expecting to enjoy it as much as I've enjoyed the previous ones.

Looking forward to watching Ratatouille, Hairspray and The Simpsons Movie soon

Storyteller

I've watched some mindless action movies lately. It's as if I'm on holiday from movie-watching as well as studying... come to think of it...they are kind of the same thing.

I've seen Die Hard 4.0., way over the top but not bad at all. Transformers held my attention for 2 or 3 quarters of it while XXX with Vin Diesel was kind of poor from start to finish.

I've bought 3 Ingmar Bergman films on dvd so that I can make up for the action movies I've seen during the holiday.

Music In Me

I've been in Norway for a month already. I've spent time with friends and family, been hiking in the mountains, gone on fishing trips, eaten Norwegian food etc.

Last week I was at the music festival. It was incredibly awesome in spite of some heavy rain for a couple of days. The highlights were Arcade Fire and The Gossip (whom I had never listened to before). Spent a lot of money though :(

I'll upload some photos soon

Home

I arrived in Norway on the 5th of august, and now I'm made my way up north to my hometown. In a couple of weeks I'll go back south to attend the music festival, see a soccer game and visit friends and family.

It has been raining today but the sun just came out a little bit now (it's 11.10pm).

I've been out shopping for Norwegian movies and music so I can catch up on stuff while I'm home. And I brought a bunch of dvd's from sydney too so I'll keep busy. Started watching Angels in America tonight.

Education

I was offline for a while as internet was down. And I've been busy with uni and work. These days I'm trying to get everything ready before I leave for Norway on monday. Assignments need to be done, I'm moving out, buying presents, re-directing my mail (that's one I've almost forgotten about actually), saying goodbye to friends etc.

I'll be back in august for week 2 of my last semester. At least the last semester of the bachelor degree. I'm thinking of doing a master degree in film studies if I can get scholarship/loan for it.

Hove

I am going to Hove Music Festival this summer (that's winter here in Australia). It has a neat line-up for a Norwegian festival (understatement). The headliners are:

Slayer
Queens of the Stone Age
The Killers
My Chemical Romance

And then there are some "lesser" bands with names like:

Arcade Fire
Modest Mouse
Tv on the Radio
Interpol
Damien Rice
Mastodon
Bright Eyes
Patrick Wolf
Clipse
Neurosis
Incubus
Kaizer Chiefs
Amy Winehouse
The Hold Stady

And there's Norwegian bands too...

Even a couple of Australian bands are taking the trip.

I am rather excited about the whole thing :)

Half A World Away

So I'm going home in less than two months. Haven't been back in a year and a half so I'm looking forward to it. It'll be good to meet everyone again. It's summer when I go back, the weather will be similar to what it's like in Sydney in fall and winter I expect. Hopefully it'll be good enough so I can go on some hikes in the mountains and go on a few fishing trips.

My ticket is still Sydney - Singapore - Vienna - Oslo - New York - Seattle - Sydney, but most likely I'll be changing it so something simpler (and cheaper) any day now.

Oh and I've started working at Blockbuster. Yes, that means I rent dvd's for free. Free.

Far Away

While not doing my assignment, I came across Rotten Tomatoes' Worst Reviewed Films list. An interesting read of course, but I was surprised to see Gigli only coming in at number 55. I suppose it does have a certain entertainment factor, all those bad lines... *shudder* Amy Dawes at Variety wrote in a review of the film "an enjoyably written and performed romantic comedy". I hope she's out of a job.

The two Baby Geniuses films were referred to as "The Anti-Godfather". Now that I have to watch.

The number 1 spot went to Ballistic: Ecks Vs. Sever. "When a movie is widely regarded as being inferior to its own Game Boy adaptation, you know "worst movie ever" is not only apt, it might actually be an understatement."

On a totally separate note, Nickelback's singles have all now been scientifically proven to be the same song

Blown A Wish

So I'm back at uni. First assignment is due next week already. But...gasp...I am happy to be back. Actually, that shouldn't be a surprise, but I do seem to be one of the few that are happy to be studying again. It might have to do with the fact that I'm studying film...

I've settled in at my new place, but I wont be staying here very long. When I go on holiday in june I'll move out, put my things in storage, and then find a new place when I come back in august. That'll save me 2 months rent, and after paying for the round-the-world ticket for june/july, I'll need to save money wherever I can...of course, that might not apply to the cinema and the video store.

A few weeks ago I saw 'Alien', it was fantastic :)

I've also watched 'A Cock and Bull Story', Michael Winterbottom's attempt to film the "unfilmable" novel 'The Life and Opinions of Tristam Shandy, Gentleman'. I'm intrigued about the book.
